There is no other town that gets me shankin’ like New York.  Always running & beating with a pulse that would give anyone that chooses to battle it a run for their money.
Yesterday was one of those days.  Actually the entire weekend.  From dusk til’ dawn I was running; errands, meetings, moving, car, bikes, trains, concerts, dinners, yada yada.  You name it, I did it; almost!  I am zonked & now it’s Monday.  Thank goodness for yoga, running, biking and bootcamp to keep me in line.  Which way is up?  My mind is still buzzing.  It’s time to run, but how?  Burning the candle at both ends; not a good idea!  Thank goodness New York has got my back.  We are great friends.  I race and he pushes me along.  New York is definitely a guy.  Hard, fast and competitive.  But there is also heart, soul and allot of passion.  So maybe she is a girl too.  Who knows?  At least I wrote today even though I don’t know how!

I used to get stressed; now I just breath.  What’s interesting & exciting is that it has now become an automatic, sub-conscious behavior.
There are and will always be experience that carry the potential of generating stress within us, but the choice always remains with us.  Will we choose to allow this energy to penetrate our energy field and effect our experience of life?
For most of my life, I have allowed myself to fall victim to the experiences and energy that surrounds me.  I absorb the energy around me and allow it to adjust my energetic vibration to match it.  So, if I’m surrounded by happy people, I eventually feel happy.  And if I’m around stressed-out people, I take on that energy too.
Learning to be in the presence of any experience and remain balanced is a never-ending journey.  We want to remain open and to feel all the experiences life has to offer.  This is the beauty of life.  Yet, for many, it’s all to intense and we become hardened.  We become closed and cut our ability to feel.  Then we manipulate our external environment to feel things we desire or conversely, to avoid feelings that are painful.  This ultimately leads to misery and suffering.  Playing with feelings is dangerous business.  Just look at the stats on deaths related to pain killers & anti-depressants.  They are the top killers of all.
The beautiful opportunity that we all have as humans is to remain open and accepting of all experiences and feelings.  They are all perfect and required.  There is nothing to change.  Just be.
As we slow our mental activity, we are able to feel ourselves more fully.  We can feel all kinds of sensations on our body and enjoy the simplicity of our breath.  We feel balanced, connected and aligned.  Nothing to change, we experience a feeling of self-love and contentment.
When we are with our breath, we are in control of our experience.  We are complete.  Everything is perfect as it is now.
I am so grateful that I have reached a point where this breathing comes automatically.  It will always be a journey of growth.  I will stumble at times, for sure.  But for now, I am aware of the stressors and notice myself choosing to breath deeply instead of reacting.  It is very cool.  Oh, the simple joys in life!

Money makes the girl go round… slip.  I meant to say ‘world go round’, but I’m conscious that many of mine & other men’s actions when it comes to money and all else is often, if not always, aimed at getting the girl or girls to go round, or more precisely, swirl around us.  We use this whacky pieces of paper dreamt up by aristocrates and pumped full of false meaning as a fishing pole.  But in reality, it’s a black hole; a vicious cycle leading to misery.
Money is merely a tool.  The choice is ours; will we use the tool for good or evil.  Will it empower us and others, or will it drive us further into misery?  What is our purpose for using this tool?  Are we trying to fix or improve something?  Or are we seeking more power and control with it?
Money is merely an attempt at valuing human energy.  Incomplete at best, it only has value when we value it.  The powers that be, for now, may only preside over the value of money as long as the people they serve value them.  As the money & power gap widens between leaders and the people they serve, this intensifying disconnect ultimately leads to distrust in leadership and all that those leaders preside over, including the value of money.  This has been seen time & time again and blazing examples exist today in the likes of Greece, Italy, Spain and now the United States.
Will we continue to go down this black hole or will we seek alternatives that serve the common good?  Will we find new ways to share value that empower us as a collective global community or will we continue to crave this paper stuff we collectively call money?
This economy that we have built is no longer serving the collective good of humanity and it hasn’t for a very long time.  The writing is on the wall that the end game is near.  The cycles are over.  Our leaders continue to play all kinds of sophisticated money & policy games, attempting to inject more stability and security into the economy.  But the people aren’t buying it.  We are loosing hope.  The people are suffering.  And they are getting tired of it.  When will they rise up?  They already are and soon this will reach a tipping point.  A revolution?  A full out collapse of the economy?  A natural disaster?  How will it go down?  Nobody knows, but I gather that if we are really honest with ourselves we know that things must change and in a very material way.  And for this to happen, there needs to be a major shakedown.  Gradual change sounds nice and very diplomatic, but when an organism is cancerous, like our global economy, drastic measures are in order if we have any hope of removing the cancer.  Are we ready for that?  How bad is our suffering?  Will we play this current game to the end, or will we rise up before it’s too late?
I am optimistic and believe in the resilience of humanity to do what is right for the collective good of humanity.  Examples of this resilience are emerging everywhere we look.  Let us keep our eyes open and ears to the pavement.  Let us remain awake and aware; ready to take the action required of us to do what is right for the collective good of humanity.  Not sure what to do; look around, talk to your friends, share your concerns, seek alternatives, express your passion and feel your joy.  And most importantly, trust your instincts, for they are your best guide!

It feels like love bombs are falling on me everywhere I go!  No complaints here; bring it on!  But I am curious, what the hell is going on here?  What’s different?  Why me?
Well,  looking inward, it seems that what’s different is that I’m getting better at listening, feeling and acting in alignment with my instincts.  And by doing so, the world seems to be conspiring in my favor.  It’s like I’m flowing with whatever comes at me, rolling with the punches and saying yes to what feels right.  By doing so, more of what feels right keeps showing up for me.  I’m in alignment with my purpose and skill, always seeking expansion that stretches my talents just a bit beyond my comfort zone.  I guess this is the definition of optimal performance.  I’m aligned with my flow.  And I’m being rewarded by attracting more of what serves me.  I am forever grateful for this and continue to meet each new experience and opportunity with open arms.

I love yoga!  It is the perfect integration of mind, body & spirit rejuvenation. All I bring to my practice is returned ten fold.  As I sit in savasana (final resting), I feel the energy in my energy with such clarity.  It is pulsing intensely.  I am in a state of complete peace and I feel my life force move through me.
As I sat in savasana last night, I contemplated how this energy I had created would move through me and into the world.  As human beings, we are channels that transform energy into physical form.  This is not just spiritual stuff, this is science.
How we are feeling is directly related to our thought patterns.  And our thoughts are directly related to the words we speak and thus the actions we take.  Our physical world is thus a direct manifestation of how we are feeling.  I know, it seems wild, but imagine this scenario…
Some guy in San Fransisco dreams up an event where he would burn a wooden structure resembling a man on the beach under the Golden Gate Bridge.  He starts sharing the idea with friends.  The idea grows, they keep taking about it and it comes to life as an annual gathering.  More and more people speak of this inspiring event and more people come each year.  Eventually, there are so many inspired participants in this event that they move it to the desert in Nevada.  They call it Burning Man.  The event continues to grow, inspiring thousands to bring there creativity to share it with others at this gathering.  Today, Burning Man plays host to over 60,000 participants and there are hundreds of regional events that occur around the world each year.  Burning Man as become more than an event; it is a cultural movement that has stretched around the globe inspiring hundreds of thousands to live there dreams.  And it all started with one man’s dream.
The point is simple.  When we harmonize our mind, body & spirit, our energy can move freely.  It is clear.  It is pure.  Trusting our instincts becomes natural and occurs with ease.  Our energy flows.  And the more it flows, the greater the intensity and potential it has to manifest into physical form.
Time and time again we have witnessed how one person has the potential to change the entire world.  That potential exists within us all.  May we all connect with our unique energy, harmonize our mind, body & spirit, and to transform our dreams into physical form.

Having a love morning!  Listening to all my favorite love songs; happy ones, sad ones and the crazy ones.

There is so much love around us, pulsing inside us and begging to get out.  Love must flow.  Yet we fear being hurt and we fear sharing our love.  And we are dying inside because of it.  Our souls ache.  We crave the touch of another, yet we act the opposite.  We have some much to share, yet we act uninterested.  It’s madness.

Why are so many of us blocked from being ourselves?  Why do we wear these masks?  And why do we choose to inflict this pain on ourselves?  It is surely our doing.  Do we see this?  It’s no fun.  How do we turn this all around?

The first step is recognizing (and feeling deep in our bones) that we are good enough.  So maybe we are not perfect, but that’s no fun anyway.  But this myth that we are not good enough is total fucking bull shit.  It’s that ridiculous, that insane.  People tell us we are smart, funny, beautiful, etc., etc., etc.  And all we hear is blah, blah, blah.  We don’t buy it.  We go along feeling inadequate, small, insignificant and whatever else diminishes our purpose on this planet, in life.  Are we sick?  Or are we just mad?  How do we break this pattern of insanity?

We must reach for thoughts, words and actions that empower us.  By understanding that our struggle is a shared one, we understand that we are not alone.  All of us, even those most ‘successful’ and ‘happy’ face the same struggles when behind closed doors.  We are in this together.

By recognizing we are good enough, we open up the channel to be vulnerable.  Nothing can hurt us, unless we choose for it to do so.  We will choose differently.  When we communicate from a place of vulnerability, openness and transparency, we create space for authentic communication, sharing and understanding.  An energy of care, honor and respect protects this space.  Nothing evil shall penetrate.

Let us find the strength and confidence to be ourselves, to share our gifts with the world and to enjoy the beauty of living from a place of authenticity, love and respect for others.

Pure Love & Light,

RYAN!

Listen, trust, act.  The world conspires in my favor.  In flow, my path has been laced with ferry dust.
Last night, I was having an impromptu dinner with some dear friends at the Roebling Tea Room.  Everything was delicious, especially the conversations that were flying from one inspiring theme to another.  For a moment, we settled on the topic of hope as my friend Kristen shared some of the themes behind her most recent album.  We talked about how the traditional Greek understanding of hope was not positive.  I couldn’t agree more.
Hope can be very dangerous  especially when blind.  Faith can be deadly, especially when your cult leader entices you to drink the Grape Koolaid!  It is critical that any hope or faith is balanced by a heavy dose of instinct, the harmonious fusion of head, heart and body.  We must learn to feel more and to trust those sensations that vibrate within us, for they are our most valuable guide.  Our instincts are our only true barometer.  The mind alone can mislead, as can blind faith and hope.  We must learn to listen to our heart and to trust our bodies.  They always know best.  Opinions from others have value, as does our mental processing, but without checking in with our feelings, we cannot benefit from the value of our best guidance system which is our instincts.  They are our truth.  When we align with them, the world conspires in our favor.  Everything begins to flow and we are cared for completely.  Don’t trust me, try it!

People help the people!  Music to my ears!

It is a month today since I arrived back in my beloved home of NYC. Since I’ve arrived, each day has begun with Birdy singing to me. It feels as if her angelic energy carries me through my days.  It’s like I’m walking on clouds.  The world conspires in my favor.  Sometimes I pinch myself to make sure it’s all really happening.  Life is certainly like a box of chocolates.  It’s all what we make of our flavor of the moment.  Will we savor it?  I’m learning to enjoy each breath and feel my heart pulse inside me.  I ride through the streets of Brooklyn, breathing deep as the wind caresses my face, singing all the way.  I sometimes laugh.  It’s all too perfect!  All of it.  Even the hard stuff feels soft.  Like tai-chi, I move with the energy.  No resistance.  Everything is perfect as it is.  Life is a gift!  Full of choices.  How will we greet them?  Will we resist?

Accept the challenge to witness the feeling.  It will pass.  All things do.  And then what?  What is left?  How will we respond?  What meaning will we choose to give to our life?  Will we take from it or add to it?  Will we serve or will we steal?

I’ve discovered that a life of service is a life worth living.  Joy is guaranteed.  Peace is certain.  It’s simple!  When I orient my life towards serving others everything just works.  Plain and simple.  In service, I’m cared for.  Nothing is lacking.  I thrive in abundance.  I am grateful.  Life is such a gift!  Plain and simple.

Pure Love & Light,

Mom & I have always been best friends!  Our bond is unbreakable!
From the days of my very first memories, I have always known my mom & I to share an extremely unique relationship.  I have memories of being cuddled up next to her on long drives.  Back then, it was cool for a little one to be in the front seat of the car.  As she drove, she would teach me about morals, ethics and how to treat people.  I would ask all kinds of questions and I remember her speaking to me as an adult and friend, not just as her child.  This was the tone of our conversations throughout my childhood.  We were always sharing deeply intimate and personal stories. Neither of us had anything to hide, never!  I could always tell my mom anything and everything, which was awesome, amazing and the seed of our special friendship.  During the time of my brain surgery and long recovery, I will never forget the feelings I had and my connection to my mom.  I remember never being scared, but I so remember the only time I cried was when my mom held me and began crying a few days before my surgery.  The tears began to flow and I felt that my tears were her tears.  We were one.  We are one!
My mom is my greatest point of inspiration.  She is the best mom for me!  I could never, EVER, ask for anything more.  I love her to no end!  Just feeling this love brings tears of joy to my eyes!
Mom, I THANK YOU with all of my heart for not only bringing me to life, but for raising me to feel and share this incredible love that pulses inside me and originates in you!  You are my rock!  You are my mom!  I love you mom!

Last night a bunch of friends gathered to watch a screening of One Track Heart, The Story of Krishna Das.  I was so incredibly inspired by KD’s true-to-life story, not always glamorous, but always touching!

Krishna Das is a regular guy.  He grew up in rural Long Island, played basketball in high school, got into acid, lost himself and ended up in India searching for meaning.  This is where he met and studied under Maharaj-ji, a Hindu guru, who had a massive impact on KD’s life and perspectives.

Long story short, KD came to discover that the only way he could find meaning in his life was through service, specifically singing with others.  Back in the mid-90s, KD began hosting Kiran gatherings on Monday nights at Jivamukti Yoga School in Lower Manhattan.  I think I actually attended one of these sessions in the late 90s, as this was my school of choice at the time.  Anyhoo, these sessions got so popular that KD started getting requests to chant with groups all over the world.

Fast forward many years, KD is now a globally recognized musician.  A few years back I had the great fortune to see him perform at Yoga Pela Paz (Yoga through Peace) in Sao Paulo.  Not realizing who he was, I was blow away to discover I had been entranced for several hours by a Jewish-American guy whose voice carries the power to transform entire groups of people.

In watching this film, I so connected with KD’s journey and the unique gift he offers to the world through his chanting and powerful story.  KD has arrived at spiritual space where his life’s meaning is derived through service to others.  And he offers his gifts in a down-to-earth manner that is completely relatable to the average Westerner’s struggle.  Yet his love and compassion for humanity is crystal clear.  I am grateful to have experienced Krishna Das in action and remain a student of this wisdom that so beautifully pours through him.

Pure Love & Light,

RYAN!
