Back in Sydney after a month on the road with mom and it’s a glorious & beautiful fall day here.  The colorful falling leaves beset a pristine sunrise over Darling Harbor and Sydney’s CBD (Central Business District).  I enjoy my beloved Flat White at my local Patisserie in Pyrmont.  With each sip, I savor the flood of memories from these past months here.  Australia feels like home.  As an American, life here just flows in such a familiar way.  Driving on the left side of the road now seems intuitive.  And I might even have a little accent!  Australians are some of the most kind, friendly and laid back people I have ever met.  The economy is thriving here and abundance once again feels the natural order of life.  Walk down the street and you can feel the happiness and simple ease of life flowing through the air.  Life is easy in Australia; the way it should be.

And Matt, my beloved ‘brotha from anotha motha’; what a gift!  I am so incredibly grateful for his presence in my life.  About six months ago, Matt sat next to a friend of mine on a flight from Sydney to San Fransisco to attend a conference my organization Pure Project was supporting.  On the long flight, Matt explained to Simon his plans for his visit to the US.  Mentioning he planed to visit NYC and would like to connect with Pure Project, Simon offered to introduce us.  Matt and I ended up meeting on his trip to NYC, where we both came to understand that our visions and work were deeply aligned; his being called Pure Advice and mine Pure Project.  Matt came all the way back to NYC from Sydney the following month.  On this 10 day visit, we started to map out ideas for how we could support one another’s strategies under a united vision.  New York’s winter quickly approaching, the obvious choice was to begin building this united approach to our work together under the warm Australian sun.  Off to Sydney I raced!

Life truly is like a box of chocolates.  You never know what you are going to get.  Matt is one of the most delectable of chocolates one could ever experience.  Without hesitation, Matt is the embodiment of pure love, which emanates powerfully when you are in his presence.  Simply by being himself, I’ve learned so much standing in his presence these past months.  I am forever changed for the better.  This is the beginning of a friendship that will take me to the end of my days on this planet.

Tonight, Matt & I will surprise our moms by taking them to see Birdy perform at the Sydney Opera House.  I am so excited!!!  Birdy is the most fascinating savant.  When she sings People Help The People, without fail, I’m brought to tears.

What a gift it has been to spend this past month traveling Australia and New Zealand with my beloved mother.  Mission accomplished, she glows as she expresses her joy for this opportunity to share yet another adventure together.  My mom looks like a new woman; lighter and with a spring in her step.  Last night she was nearly skipping as we left our impromptu dinner party with my Sydney crew.  We are now contemplating our next travel adventure together.  Wow, words cannot express!

Tomorrow, my summer in Sydney ends as I chase the warm weather back to NYC.  It is now time to put these strategies Matt & I have developed into action.  The Pure dynasty has gone multi-national!  Endless gratitude & so excited to continue sharing this grand experiment and adventure.

Love & Light,

RYAN!

Mom & I spent the last week diving at the Great Barrier Reef and hiking the Daintree National Forest, the oldest tropical rainforest in the world.  Cape Tribulation was a highlight, which is the only place in the world where two World Heritage sites meet.  Wow, talk about being immersed in the nature!  Dove with massive sharks & turtles amongst some of the most beautiful coral reefs I’ve ever witnessed.  Then saw a massive eel in the swamps of the Daintree; mind-blowing!  What a life!  I’m so incredibly grateful to share all these special experiences with my mom!
Time to jump on a plane back to Sydney to make our concert at the Sydney Opera House!  PS, don’t tell mom; it’s a surprise!

And boy do I love surfing!  So much that I use a kite to pull me across its full expanse.  Like learning any new skill, kite surfing takes tremendous discipline, commitment and determination.  And choosing which wave to ride makes all the difference in the world.  It’s a high stakes ride where focus is a matter of life & death.
Its interesting to witness how some seem to always catch the good waves while others always seem to struggle with those that drop hard and fast.  What a metaphor for life.  It’s as if we get swept up in an energetic flow that carries us through our lives.  Sometimes that flow can lead us towards beauty, joy and greatness.  And sometimes that flow leads us along a path of negativity, sadness and disappointment.  These opposing energetic qualities have an extremely powerful pull.  So much so that freeing ourselves from it’s grasp can seem impossible.  Yet it is.  It starts with a simple choice.  We can choose happiness or sadness, light or dark, joy or anger.  The second step is critical and often the most challenging.  This requires that we put our bodies into action that moves us towards the energy that we are choosing to align with.  Let’s say that we are feeling down and we want to feel up.  I great idea might be to go for a walk on the beach or a nice run, etc.  Yet, all we may feel like doing is sitting in a dark corner with our sadness.  What is actually required in this moment is that we willingly choose to rise above this low-vibration feeling and to physically move towards a higher vibration.  This requires creating a gap in our thought patterns, facilitating a shift towards a new energetic quality. By putting our bodies in motion, we allow this gap to emerge, facilitating this jump to a high-vibration energy.  The choice is ours.  Let us me cause in the matter of our thoughts and resulting feelings.  Time to go kite surfing!

Love is and will always be.  It flows in; flows out.  It is passion, commitment, patience & understanding.  It is wise and all knowing.  It will never let us down.  We may embrace it and feel its power radiate.  It is not to be hoarded, only shared.  It cannot be controlled; only allowed.  We are love and we are free.
The ocean and I make good companions.  I feel at home when near.  The smells in the air, the breeze, the sounds and feeling of waves crashing before me.  In and out, the tide goes.  Always there, always flowing.  I become the flow.
Since yesterday I’ve been sitting with the idea of balancing passion and patience.  These seem to be two critical ingredients in the expression of love.  Passion, a feeling fueled by thought, memory and perspective, provides us with the energy and drive to manifest that which we desire; the focus of our passion.  Patience balances this energy by aligning with our highest self, one that is not attached to a specific outcome.  When we decide to align with love, a commitment is made and bond is formed.  May we honor our commitments with patience, understanding and compassion.

The journey continues with mom.  Yesterday we flew from Auckland, concluding our 9 day adventure through New Zealand, and arrived in Cairns, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef & the Daintree Forest, the only place in the world where two World Heritage Sites meet.  We will spend a week in Port Douglas and the surrounding area exploring the region, doing lots of diving, trekking through the rainforest, long walks on the beach, lots of yoga and possibly a bit of kite surfing too!

This morning I had a glorious meditation on the beach (pictured above) as the sun rose, concluded with a delightful vinyasa class delivered by the sweetest guy.  Forget his name, but after class we had a super inspiring conversation about the global shift in consciousness, increased synchronicity and thrivability.

It is so incredible and such a gift to witness this expansion in human consciousness emerging from every corner of the planet.  It seems that everywhere I travel, I meet individuals and organizations living in alignment with this new consciousness and paradigm.  It is clear the world and humanity are experience great transformation at an ever increasing rate.  We are more connected with one another than ever before.  This connection, empowered by technology, is bringing us closer together both virtually and physically.  Even more, we are becoming more aware of this set of universal truths that bind us together as a global society. The greatest of these truths is that of love.  Love is what binds us together as one.  We are born as pure love and that is how we shall return to the earth.  When we remain grounded to earth and nature throughout our lives, we feel this natural connection to all that comes from nature, including ourselves.  We are nature and we are love.  When we live in alignment with this truth, we thrive.  It’s as simple as that.  I have affirmed this through personal experimentation.

Like most, I grew into societal norms as my mind matured out of childhood.  Before that, I experienced the world primarily through feeling, forming the base of my personality.  As I reached adolescence, I began to form my own perspectives.  These were primarily formed by perceiving and making judgements about experiences occurring around me.  Thus, I became a product of my environment.  It wasn’t until I encountered more challenging life experiences that my foundation began to shake beneath me.  I began to realize that I was cause in the matter of my life and that I had complete power over my mind and the thoughts to which I chose to give power.  As I became more conscious and aware, I earned to witness experiences without passing judgement.  I was liberated to simply choose my response rather than reacting without awareness.  This remains a process of endless growth and personal joy.  Life has become my own creation and I remain in awe of the power of living in alignment with my purpose, which is to experience and share love with others.  Care to join me?

RYAN!

Friendship, Love & Sex; the perfect match.  A union of mind, body & spirit.  Love is intrinsic to the human spirit, allowing us to thrive in our lives on this planet.  Sex is the the physical embodiment of that love, bringing forth the presence of love into our bodies.  Friendship completes this perfect union through deep mental stimulation, as we choose our friends based on those that match our personalities such that we are able to engage & exchange ideas and experiences in a highly compatible manner.
As this ideal trinity seems so challenging to achieve, yet critical to a profoundly fulfilling life, forming this trinity seems to be the greatest reward of a life’s journey committed to personal growth and a commitment to something larger than ourselves.  Based on my own life’s experience, I have found that integrity, respect and compassion are critical ingredients, yet none bring us to this unity until we let go of our attachments.  When we explore friendship, love & sex, we see that each exist through acts of giving and sharing of ourselves with others.  They are deeply self-less acts.  If we engage in friendship, love and/or sex with the intention of receiving, gaining or achieving anything for personal benefit or to satisfy our personal desires, we cannot fully experience the joys they produce.  On the contrary, these selfish cravings are corrosive to our experience of life and bring us into suffering.  This is contrary to the elation that is experienced when aligned with this magical trinity.  Thus, to embody this perfect union, we must learn to let go of our attachments to ideas, things and people so that we may give of ourselves in a profoundly inspiring manner.  Life is to be shared with others.  The world needs us.  We exist to give of ourselves within the experience of love and compassion for others.
When love & friendship merge, sex becomes the natural progression.  Without it, the trinity is incomplete.  Yet, sex is a deeply intimate physical act that triggers feelings.  These feelings arise from sensations on the body that trigger reactive and habitual mental responses informed by our behavior patterns.  Many of these behavioral patterns that form our personality arise from challenging experiences from our past that form emotional scars.  These scares become activated and surface powerfully in sex, which is the highest total sensory experience we may achieve as humans.  Thus, in consciousness, with deep presence and awareness, sex becomes a deeply therapeutic act whereby we resolve and heal these emotional scars that hold us back from fully engaging in this perfect union.
In conclusion, we should all have more sex.  Do it for the planet, do it for humanity; just do it.  Pun intended!

I almost got blown off the ferry deck coming into Wellington yesterday.  The winds blowing through the Cook Straight separating the north & south islands of New Zealand topped 40+ knots.  What an experience being blow about.  I am such a wind junkie!  Today, I will look for some kite surfing spots in the harbor.
The wind is my guide.  It always sets me in the ‘right’ direction.  I trust it implicitly, for it never steers me wrong.  When my mind is full of useless clutter, the wind doctor blows it away.  I’ll I need to do is step into it’s path and allow the breeze, or gusts if it may, guide me.  Put a board on my feet and let it push me across the roaring harbor and all my thoughts drift away.  I gather my paraglider, climb the nearest peak and jump.  The wind is there to protect me and push me towards my dreams.  I align with my instinct and steer my sail towards my destiny.  I become the wind.  I flow.  My religion.  My mission is brought to life.  Join me!

Did you know there are no snakes in New Zealand?  How great is that!  It gives new meaning to the colloquialism ‘no worries mate’!  It’s kind of like driving through Australia and never having to worry about a police car hiding around the corner, ready to catch you speeding.  There is no such thing.  Unfortunately, there is a down side.  You still can’t speed, for there are cameras everywhere ready to send a ticket right to your doorstep.  And now they have these nifty ‘average speed’ mechanisms that capture your speed at various intervals along a highway and if your average speed is over the speed limit, bam!; ticket to your mailbox!  So, I wonder, are no snakes better than hiding snakes?  Maybe snakes with flashing red warning signs is the optimal solution!  I reckon so!  And cameras are better thank hiding cops.

I’ve always felt that rules were meant to be broken!  Sure, I understand their value in organizing a group of people into a system and structure.  But I’ve never felt a part of that monkey business.  This presents a bit of a problem when living in civilized society.  I guess that’s why I prefer living as a digital nomad and in-between the lines of ‘modern’ society.  Places like New Zealand suit me really well, as their are basic rules based on the logic of care for the commons.  No one is policing my actions, yet I feel the desire to protect this land and its beautiful people.  I want to obey these rules.  Ok, I have to admit, I’ve been speeding a bit.  But hey, there is nobody on the streets, except for the occasional sheep crossing!  America, on the other hand, has become a police state.  This has never been so clear as now, on this trip, with my new perspective.  I cannot live peacefully in a place that seeks to police and limit just about every action of it’s citizens.  And have you looked at a microwave instruction manual in America?  It has a warning not to put your cat in the device to dry it.  What the fuck is that?  Or coffee cups with warning signs that the contents are hot!  Is this place insane or what?  Kids shooting kids in school?  People eating themselves to death with no desire to stop.  Shall I go on?  I think not, which is why I won’t go on accepting this broken state of affairs in my beloved homeland.  I will continue to live in the grey!  But I will keep shooting of rainbows everywhere I go!  I love this planet we live on.  This is my home!  I will never forget the story of an astronaut that began her journeys around earth by always noting when her home of California passed her, yet after a few days the lines blurred and her perspective shifted such that there were no lines and the entire planet of Earth was her home.  I like that perspective!  How about we all love Earth, all of it?  And all of it’s people with all of their imperfections. Let’s us all be perfectly imperfect, embrace it all as we spread love & compassion around our lovely planet Earth!

I cannot believe it’s 7am on this beach and I don’t see a crack of a sunrise yet!  Yet!, I’m ready to kayak the Abel Tasman today!  Then go swim with the sperm whales in Kaikoura!  Yeah!

We arrived in Nelson last night, which is on the northern tip of the South Island of New Zealand.  In typical Ryan form, we made a whirlwind tour by navigating the South Island in 4 days.  Crazy, I know.  Now it is time to rest for a few days, before heading off on our next adventure.  Today we will explore Able Tasman National Park by kayak on an overnight adventure.  This is what I call rest!  Thank goodness my mom is as crazy as I!
These past weeks my feelings of gratitude have been intensifying and focusing themselves around the ability to manifest my dreams into reality.  One of these reoccurring dreams is to navigate the planet as a digital nomad, while creating physical spaces where creatives & social change agents may converge and co-create in different locations around the planet.  While my list of ideal locations is always growing, I am starting in my home town of NYC.
Over the past few months, I have been building a strategy for Pure House, which is the umbrella name I am giving to this network of physical spaces.  Back in NYC, our small portfolio of properties is growing steadily.  At present we are adding a new property to the mix in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  As I have been in Australia & New Zealand these past 3 months, none of this would be possible without the support of my team back in NYC.  At the forefront of this team is my friend Jackie, who is absolutely incredible.  I could not do any of this without her dedicated support and commitment.  I call her rockstar!  Like a super hero, she achieves the unimaginable with beauty, grace & ease, all with a happy demeanor and grateful attitude.  Words cannot accurately express my gratitude to having the honor to work with Jackie.  And it is my intention to do everything in my power to express my gratitude, fully appreciate and respect Jackie’s commitment to this exciting adventure we are co-creating.  Together, we will do great things!  Thank You Jackie!

Today we will hike to Franz Josef Glacier on the wild West Coast of New Zealand.  Working on mom to take a helicopter trip to the top while I hike.  Let’s see!  Yesterday we made a beautiful drive from Lake Wanaka.  Some of our highlights can be found here.  The past few days have been full of driving.  We are half-way up the South Island & I figure we have a few more days to Marlborough Sounds, where I think we will pause for a few days.  I’m thinking we will skip the North Island on this trip, as we are on beauty overload and mom needs some rest for a few days.
It’s been so much fun getting into a rhythm with mom.  We know each other so well, yet we haven’t spent 30 full days together since I was a baby.  Allot has changed since then.  Each of us our unique preferences, styles of music to listen to in the car, eating habits, sleeping schedules, energy cycles, endurance, thought patterns, etc.  That said, the strongest common element is our desire to find harmony and enjoy one another.  This takes patience, understanding and compassion.  It is a great opportunity for each of us to grow.  This is what relationships are all about anyway.  And we are learning allot.  That is not to say we are having a tough time getting along; actually quite the opposite.  I don’t think I’ve laughed this much in years.  We joke like kids & reminisce about the ridiculousness of the past.  Oh, what fun!  Like two kids in a candy store, of which we have hit plenty along the way.  That is to say, holding onto my raw diet on these travels has not been too successful.  My mom keeps urging me to help her get healthy and then seduces me with delicious sweet delicacies along our journey.  Oh well, you can’t win them all.  In the name of flow, I’m on the wave of a pleasure seeker   The journey continues.  Time to hike.
