Today we will hike to Franz Josef Glacier on the wild West Coast of New Zealand.  Working on mom to take a helicopter trip to the top while I hike.  Let’s see!  Yesterday we made a beautiful drive from Lake Wanaka.  Some of our highlights can be found here.  The past few days have been full of driving.  We are half-way up the South Island & I figure we have a few more days to Marlborough Sounds, where I think we will pause for a few days.  I’m thinking we will skip the North Island on this trip, as we are on beauty overload and mom needs some rest for a few days.
It’s been so much fun getting into a rhythm with mom.  We know each other so well, yet we haven’t spent 30 full days together since I was a baby.  Allot has changed since then.  Each of us our unique preferences, styles of music to listen to in the car, eating habits, sleeping schedules, energy cycles, endurance, thought patterns, etc.  That said, the strongest common element is our desire to find harmony and enjoy one another.  This takes patience, understanding and compassion.  It is a great opportunity for each of us to grow.  This is what relationships are all about anyway.  And we are learning allot.  That is not to say we are having a tough time getting along; actually quite the opposite.  I don’t think I’ve laughed this much in years.  We joke like kids & reminisce about the ridiculousness of the past.  Oh, what fun!  Like two kids in a candy store, of which we have hit plenty along the way.  That is to say, holding onto my raw diet on these travels has not been too successful.  My mom keeps urging me to help her get healthy and then seduces me with delicious sweet delicacies along our journey.  Oh well, you can’t win them all.  In the name of flow, I’m on the wave of a pleasure seeker   The journey continues.  Time to hike.

I am blow away by the beauty of New Zealand.  Here are a few highlights from our past few days.  On thursday, we arrived in the magical town of Queenstown.  I fell in love instantly, knowing I could easily spend some serious time exploring my love of adventure sports here.  The following morning we took a drive to Glenorchy, one of the most scenic roads in the world.  We then made our way through Te Anau to Fjordland, home of the infamous Milford Sound.  On Friday night, we took an overnight cruise through the sound and out to the Tasman Sea at sunrise.  The experience was truly magical.  Saturday we drove to Lake Wanaka, stopping off at Mirror Lakes and several other points of inspiration.  Today we will head off to the west coast after a short cycling tour around Lake Wanaka.
There is so much to see & I am definitely coming back ready to dive deep into a wide array of adventure sports.  My mom, or shall I say ‘mum’ as the locals do, and I are having the time of our lives and our getting along fabulously.  Once again, I feel so grateful to have such a special bond with my mother.  We are the perfect travel companions, already planning our next trip together for this summer, but this time inviting my sisters and their children.  If your reading sisters, get the kids packed, we are going on a trip together.  This shall be interesting!  This trip has reaffirmed for me the value of family bonds and my intention to share experiences with my family whenever possible.  I am eager, excited & ready for what the future holds.  On to the next adventure!

Living the dream!  My body as been tingling with excitement since I step foot in this magical land of New Zealand!  The energy is magnetic here in Queenstown!  I can hardly believe it & I keep pinching myself to remind myself this is real!  This morning I rose from my bed hanging over the edge of Lake Wakatipu, surrounded by walls of windows.  As I type the sun rises over the mountains edge, sending a purple-pink hase onto the perfectly situated clouds hanging over the lake.  I sip my Flat White coffee, which I picked up that the local bakery on the lakes edge.  All the bread & pastries are made fresh by the sweetest Kiwis.  Everyone I encounter is filled with a smile & kindness that adds even more light to my morning.  I’m in awe!  I’m about to head out on one of the world’s most beautiful drives along Lake Wakatipu towards Glenorchy.  Later today, we head off to Milford Sound for an overnight cruise in one of the most majestic Fjords in the world!  What a life!  I am so incredibly grateful!

I love flying; always have!  A perfect metaphor, I guess it’s a function of my adventurous, face-paced, high-risk/high-reward lifestyle.  And when things get choppy up here, I get most excited!  The butterflies run amuck within my belly and I begin to contemplate the wildest of thoughts.  I remember a flight that commenced emergency landing procedures above Geneva, Switzerland.  Everyone was screaming and a few even expelled there lunch all over themselves.  It was a wild ride down to earth again.  I simply began to put on my shoes while contemplating the ridiculousness of it all.  I was so excited, yet relaxed.  Yet another reminder that I’m totally crazy; something I truly love about myself.  In a world that seems quite insane to me, my craziness feels very normal to me.  I love my life and I will live it full out; to the max.  No holds bard; whatever that means!  I’ve only got one life to live.  Time is of the essence.  There is nothing or no one holding me back, except myself.  I have no limits and I an insatiable appetite for risk.  For me, fear is an illusion.  It is not real, but rather a creation of my mind.  Yet, I am becoming more sensitive to danger with experience.  Fortunately for me, danger is my friend and we seem to get along like old friends!  It watches out for me and I for it.  I keep my eyes open along with my heart.  I remain aware and sensitive to all that surrounds me.  And most of all, I have learned to trust life, specifically as it relates to me.  This helps with the fear, as when I trust, fear dissolves quickly.
Trust is a beautiful thing!  It is liberating.  When I trust myself and others, while remaining grounded and aware, I create a field whereby the world seems to conspire in my favor.  People, things and experiences align, synchronize and serendipity becomes commonplace.  Simply put, life flows when I trust.  And it’s oh so easy to do.  It starts with a decision.  I choose to trust life.  Care to join me?

Last week @ Figment Geelong, I met Ellinor.  We shared a truly inspiring conversation circling topics of love, life & inspiration.  She is a talented photographer with some interesting perspectives & approaches.  She used this image on the front of her business card.  I was immediately drawn to the powerful symbolism behind this photograph.
Relationships thrive in the presence of love and to be sustained they require compassion, respect and commitment.  If violated, both get stung! It’s so easy to allow ourselves to get overwhelmed and uncomfortable, and to do whatever we can to avoid these feelings.  Yet by doing so, we loose our connection with our higher-self, one that is committed to something larger than ourselves and that feels a connection with all life.  By loosing this connection, we act individualistically, which is out of alignment with the natural order of life.  We are all one and united both in our differences and shared experience of life.  We all need one another to thrive.  By cutting this connection, we all get hurt.  Everything is connected.  The examples are plentiful.  Just think of the infectious disease spread by one person’s abusive behavior, such as the effects of alcoholism on a family, community or a nation.  If one person disconnects, we all get stung!  And the pain can live on for a lifetime.  It’s simply not worth it.  I imagine someone running after me with a knife.  They are out to get me.  I have two options; I can turn away and run for my life, or I can stand firm, face my attacker.  If I run, I will always be running in fear of being attacked.  If I stand firm and face the illusion of fear, I can confront this impending danger head on with awareness.  There is no option.  Facing our fears is the only way out, for it is simply a creation of our mind. When we establish a connection with ourselves and others, a bond is formed that unites us as one.  The mind may not understand this bond, but the wisdom of our bodies and our spirit knows it as truth.  When we do so, fear has no power to manifest itself, for it is in the presence of love.  There is nothing to fear and nothing to control.  Experience has taught me that both are illusions.  All is perfect, as it is.  Let us join hands, express our love and compassion towards others, while remaining committed to our higher-self.

Birthdays exist as markers to reflect, express gratitude and set new intentions.  I am so grateful to spend this month adventuring through Australia & New Zealand with my mother.  We are having an absolute blast, sharing stories of past, present & future; laughing all along the way.  Yesterday, we completed the Great Ocean Road, where we played with Kuala Bears and soaked in some of this planets most inspiring of vistas.  Here are a few of the highlights.  We capped of the day with a lovely dinner, where we shared some stories about her teenage years.  The conversation was so special and I feel like I got to know my mom even better, which I couldn’t imagine possible.  I am so so grateful for our ability to share such conversations together.
This year I have decided to pause the Celebrating You Dinner I typically host to celebrate my friends new & old to focus that celebration on my mother.  Life is about celebration, laughter and experiences with others.  And they are so much sweeter when we fill them with love.  This is my intention for this coming year; to fill my life with laughter & love, to celebrate & to share.  I hope to share more experiences with you all in the coming years!  Thank you for all of your kindness & support!  Time to hit the Yarra Valley.

Out on the Great Ocean Road with mom, which is one of the most beautiful coastal drives in the world and I’ve done it twice in the past month.  On the first trip, I kept thinking how nice it would be as a romantic journey with a loved one.  I wasn’t picturing mom at that time although this is not the first romantic journey we’ve been on together.  I will never forget Positano on the Amalfi Coast.  Both of us were having a blast, while everyone around us was on their honey moon.  Both mom and I were both in new relationships and had left our new partners back home.  It was quite hilarious, although frustrating at times.  This time around everything seems perfectly as it was meant to be.  The timing is perfect and both of us are ecstatic to be exactly where we are, as we are.  Each day we have some new adventure, never knowing what lies around the corner.  Yesterday’s big surprise was the Rip Curl Pro Tour Surfing Competition on the epic waves of Bell’s Beach, Victoria, just at the beginning of our Great Ocean Road adventure.  Then after a full day of driving, we settled into the cute little fishing village of Apollo Bay.  Just before sunset, we shared a beautiful walk along the abandoned beach; laughing all along the way.  Once again, I feel so grateful to share these special moments with my wonderful mother.  We really are great travel companions and I sharing this time with her is absolutely devine!

Yesterday, I attended our 16th Figment event in Geelong, Australia.  Here are the highlights from Day 1.  My personal highlights were hoola hooping with mom, Once Again with Fax Machine (pictured above), an interview with a counselor (attorney) from the city counsel on Geelong’s culture which which generated a qwerty code image and was framed as there art installation and most of all the Decentralized Dance Party.  After the sun set, about 25 rebel raisers converged in the city’s main park, boom-boxes in hand.  All synced to the same frequency, our mobile DJ led us through through Geelong’s town center.  Along the way, we picked up crowds of locals to join our mobile party.  I came to find that Aussies tend to be resistant to dancing, but our beats were no match for their resistance.  First came the kids, then the moms, then dads and then the grandparents.  It was unbelievable.  At one point, we settled at the harbor near two restaurants as people left their dinner tables to get down to our beats.
Figment never seizes to inspire me.  We could have never imagined 5 years ago of the potential impact of our crazy idea to bring a bit of Burningman energy to NYC in a family-friendly format.  This year we are on target for 12 events in 3 countries.  Next year, there are over 20 on the roster.  And we are now being approached and supported by city councils  that see Figment as a vehicle to increase civic engagement.  It is incredible to witness the impact of this little idea.  And the moments that are most inspiring are the small ones; simply witnessing a father and daughter building an art project together, once strangers painting a portrait together, mom & daughter hoola hooping together and so much more.  I am truly inspired and so so grateful to be part of such an incredible movement of participatory art and culture, which is transforming lives & relationships around the planet!
Now I’m off on the Great Ocean Road with mom, yeah!

Last night was wild!  After a day of showing mom around Melbourne, she hit the sack early & I went out for a quite dinner alone.  Enjoying a reprieve from my strictly raw diet, I had an amazing Malaysian prawn & vegie dish across the street at one of my favorite St. Kilda spots.  I strolled around the corner for a post-dinner walk to discover that Melbourne’s most popular band Cat Empire was performing a live in an intimate beachfront venue.  As I stood there, two friendly people approached me and asked if I wanted to join them for the concert, offering there extra ticket.  I could not resist the opportunity and spent the evening jumping up and down with my new friends.  Meenichka was a miner from Western Australia, who drives trucks with wheels 3x her size.  What a wild one.  Her friend Davin & her proceeded to tear-up the dance floor, pulling me into their antics at every opportunity.  What a magical night!

I love the mystery of life.  I never know what might come next.  I simply remain open to it all and let life flow.  Flow is my religion and it is serving me well.  I am grateful!  Off to Figment Geelong with my momma!

Love & Light,

Back in Melbourne, a city that feels so much like home, my mom & I tap dance through town seeing friends, new and old.  I feel my energy radiate within moments of arrival and things just seem to flow so naturally and rhythmic for me here.
This weekend we are co-hosting our first international Figment participatory art event in Geelong, which is a cute little town just about an hour outside Melbourne.  And last night the Melbourne creative community, many of which are Burners (people that go to Burningman), came out in full force for a happy hour to welcome our Executive Director and co-founder Dave Koren and the Figment Geelong founder Miriam F.  The night was abuzz with uber-inspiring people.  I’m constantly amazed by the talent and ingenuity that bubbles up in this magnetic town.  I felt so alive last night that goosebumps emerged on my arms several times.  Those suckers never lie!
I am so grateful to be involved with and connected to so many inspiring people all around this lovely planet of ours.  All of this creativity, excitement and zest for life fuels me, as I move closer to realizing my dreams and visions for the world.  I’m so lucky to be involved in the creation of environments and spaces that give people permission to actualize there dreams.  One of my greatest passions is to foster participatory environments that bring people together around the co-creation of experiences that promote a common good.  Figment is just that!  I’m so excited for Saturday and look forward to sharing this experience with you all!
